William Bibb Wright, Jr.

July 5, 1934 — February 17, 2025

William B. Wright, Jr. (Bill) passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025. Bill was born on July 5, 1934, in Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Kathryn Reid Wright, and his sister, Kitty Ann Collingwood.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Dollar Wright and would often say “I don’t know how I got so lucky to have her.” Betty served him, cared for him, and loved him until the very end.

Bill is also survived by three children; John Wright (Christy), Ann Bryant (John), and Mary Wannall. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Hailey Bosma (Isaiah), Kathryn Rachor (Colby), Nathan Bryant (Olivia), Casie Ward (Tyler), Reid Wright, Graham Wannall, Katie Wannall, Peyton Bosma, Wright Bosma, Betts Bosma, Charlotte Rachor, Lizzie Faye Ward, and Addie Ward. Bill was affectionately known as “Paw-Paw” by all his grandchildren.

Bill is a graduate of Georgia Military Academy (1953) and the University of Georgia. While at UGA, Bill was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was a UGA Cheerleader. His love for the UGA Cheerleading squad stayed with him through the years, and he enjoyed going back to cheer at Homecoming games with his old partners.

Upon graduation, Bill joined his family’s business and he and Betty later moved to Albany, GA where he became owner and operator of Albany Concrete Company. The business eventually sold, and Bill spent the remainder of his career working in real estate.

Bill was very involved in stewardship in Albany, GA and that heart for service was continued when he and Betty moved to Dalton in 2008. Over the years he has served as a deacon and elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church and was an active member of ChristChurch Presbyterian in Dalton. Bill served on the board of the Salvation Army and was active in the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Ga Realtor’s Association and the Exchange Club of Albany. He was a participant in many Bible study groups and served as a trustee for the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation.

Bill loved playing and watching tennis and started the first USTA Junior sanctioned tournament in Albany. His passion was people, the church, and cheering for his kids and grandkids in various sports. He never met a stranger, and we will truly miss his funny humor, infectious laugh, and cheering in the stands.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Walnut Creek Senior Living for their compassion and care shown to Bill during the latter stages of his life.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at ChristChurch Presbyterian from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Church for close friends and family. A memorial service will be held for friends in Albany, Georgia at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 1st at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

In honor of Bill, memorials may be made to ChristChurch Presbyterian, the Salvation Army, RossWoods, or the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation.
