George was born on February 23, 1925, in Marshall, North Carolina, to the late William McKinley Tipton, Sr. and Annie Mae Tipton and preceded in death by his wife, Louise Smith Tipton; son, George B. Tipton; brothers, Herbert, James, Johnny, Raymond, Gene and Clyde Tipton, and sisters Eloise Tipton West and Nellie Tipton Smith.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Tipton Miller (Terry Miller) of Dalton, and his son, Rev. Mark C. Tipton (Regina Tipton) of Dalton, as well as grandchildren: Kim Vetter (Sam), Kerri Allmond (Travis), Aaron Tipton, Jennifer Barnes (Chris), and Christin Fangmeyer (John), six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
George Served in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Chester in the Pacific Theatre seeing action at the Battle of Iwo Jima. He worked many years in the consumer finance industry and in 1970 founded North Georgia Regional Collection Agency, Inc.
George has been a member of the Dalton First Church of the Nazarene for many years serving in many capacities as well as serving on the Georgia District Board of the Church of the Nazarene. He was an ardent supporter of missions and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries.
The family will greet guests and share memories on Friday, March 6, 2020, from 3:00 PM to 4:50 PM with a service of celebration of his life to follow at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Amspaugh of Dalton First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
