Horace Michael Sewell, 97, of Dalton, went to his heavenly Father on July 17, 2022. He was born on July 29, 1924, one of ten children, in East Point, GA. He became a resident of Dalton in 1959, and was the Senior Operating Officer of ConAgra Foods until his retirement in 1987.
Horace married Hazel Robertson on September 13, 1944. They have been a loving and devoted husband and wife for 77 years. Horace and Hazel have one daughter, Sheila Sewell Riley (John), and one granddaughter, Heather Riley Perrino. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Horace and Hazel have travelled to many countries, their favorite being Scotland. Hazel is first generation from Scotland and they have visited their Scotland relatives on many occasions. While in Scotland, both Horace and Hazel played many golf courses including the Old Course in St. Andrews. Horace has been recognized with multiple awards of excellence.
Horace was in the United States Navy in World War II, serving on the Battleship USS Colorado in the South Pacific.
Horace joined Collins Memorial Methodist Church in Bolton, GA, when he was 12 years old. Since moving to Dalton in 1959, he has been a supportive member of Dalton First United Methodist Church and its programs, especially the recreation ministry.
The family would like to recognize the significant contribution of home caregivers, Hamilton Medical Center employees, and Amedysis Hospice. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Love Funeral Home. A private burial for family members will also be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Horace M. Sewell to First United Methodist Church (Recreation Ministry) in Dalton.
